group session
Challenge
I am part of the leadership of my church. Recently a longtime member and his wife were divorced. This came as a complete shock to our congregation. As a result, our church leaders have decided we would like to sponsor a “marriage tune-up” for couples in our congregation. How would you design this for these couples?
Solution
We would recommend scheduling a Saturday morning session which would include lunch and a time for quiet reflection and interaction with each other as a couple. Each person will complete the Kolbe A index prior to this session. This will help each person figure out what their striving energy is, and how it might differ from their spouse. During the session that follows, the couples will learn these things about each other:
- What is important to me?
- What is important to you?
- Are those in alignment, or are they quite different?
- How can I affirm what you need?
- How can you affirm what I need?
- Recognizing our relationship differences
- Recognizing our communication differences
- Learning techniques for building each other up according to our needs (Ephesians 4:29)
