hiring the right person
Challenge
In the next two weeks we plan on hiring a Campaign Coordinator who will assist our Development Director with our fundraising campaign. We want to make sure we hire someone who can complement our Director, and not be a clone. We need to strengthen the team to get the job done. What procedures would you recommend we follow so we can accomplish this in a day or two turnaround?
Solution
We suggest that both you and the Development Director each complete a Kolbe C index. The Kolbe C helps you define the work-related requirements for this new Campaign Coordinator role. We need to do this because 1) this gives us some guidelines for insuring that we hire someone that fits the expectations for the role as you have defined them; 2) it creates vocabulary for that person to succeed; and 3) it helps us begin to look at building the team talents it will take to get the job done.
Once that is done, then we develop a report called the RightFit™. This report establishes the “Range of Success” for the role. Each of your top candidates will need to complete the Kolbe A™ index. The results will give you vocabulary that describes their strengths. We will meet with you to share this information and to discuss your top candidates to help you see each person’s potential for success in this role, their fit to the expectations, and their ability to add to the team talents so you can make the right hiring decision to build your development team and accomplish your fund development goals.
