Dollar$$ for Development

April 14th, 2010

Most of us are familiar with the recent programs like Cash for Clunkers, Dollars for Appliances and the federal tax incentives possible when purchasing a home.  These were all started by the federal government to stimulate “certain” business and industry in hopes that it would jump start those sectors, get our economy growing again, and ultimately get people back to work.

At PSG, we have decided to provide you our own program.  We call it Dollar$$ for Development.

Here’s how you can take advantage of Dollar$$ for Development.  PSG will offer a 30% discount on the cost of our services during 2010.  As the government has rules, here are the ground rules for capturing these savings.
1. This is for every employee.  You must commit to working with your entire organization.  This is a great offer for small businesses.
2. The contract must be in place by May 31, 2010, but the services and the billing for those services can be provided anytime during 2010.
3. This is for training and consulting services.  It does not include products and materials.
4. There is a total of $85,000 in Dollar$$ for Development available.  Once that has been allocated, the program is closed.

The seed for this idea was planted with the recent Gallup Healthways Well-Being Index where Holland/Grand Haven, MI (my home town) had an overall ranking of #2.  Wow!  There were many media stories and accolades, especially when ABC News Anchor Diane Sawyer did a segment with a video clip on the Evening News.  Our friend Kurt Dykstra, mayor of Holland, is feeling pretty special since he is now on a first name basis with Diane.  (That’s how he puts it, anyway!).  What is spectacular about this overall rating as #2 is that even while all the economic turmoil is going on and especially with Michigan’s 14.1% unemployment rate (well above the national average of 9.7%) that a metro area within Michigan would end up #2 in the nation in well-being.  This is really great for Holland, and we are all basking in the afterglow.

One of the six different categories that more than 353,000 interviewees across the nation needed to respond to was Work Environment.  In essence this category assesses the relationship between companies and their employees.  Specifically this category measures job satisfaction, ability to use one’s strengths at work, trust and openness in the workplace, and whether one’s supervisor treats him/her more like a boss or a partner.  This category can drag down a community’s rating.  While Holland had the best ranking in the state, overall our state ratings could and should be better if we want to lead the way in developing great places to do great work.  PSG wants to urge you with some incentives right now to create success by releasing the potential of each employee through learning, development and performance management.  Research proves that talent management and workforce development take center stage as an economic development engine.  Not only is it the right thing to do for your people and your company, it’s also a competitive strategy for attracting and retaining top talent.

Our vision is to provide products and services that lead the way in creating great places to do great work, and building productive, fulfilling and satisfying workplaces focused on achieving results through employee engagement.  Our tag line is:
